KAHUNA breaks Top Ten in Atlanta |
Club Kahuna Volleyball showed the volleyball community that they are a club that continues to improve and play with skill and heart. That was evident when both our older teams (North Shore 17s & North Shore 18s) finished 9th at the Atlanta Big South Qualifier. Although we did not qualify, we continue to play at a high level with the older and established clubs. We also received a written node from PrepVolleyball.com in their March 27 Court Report. I have included a section here...

"More from Big South
As I explained in the wrap ups, the several venues for this year’s event made even covering the finals of the Club events an impossibility, meaning my knowledge of what went down comes exclusively from the results reporting from Midwest Volleyball and any club’s contributions.
18 Club, which Tsunami won in two over Biltmore, I have detailed in a previous article because it was staged at the Georgia International Convention Center, the tourney’s main venue.
We wrote about CJV’s effort in a semifinal loss to Tsunami, but received a bit more from coach Shannon Wells. She noted that CJV swept through its Day 1 pool, including a win over AVA and supremely talented (and unsigned) senior OH Lauren Hagan, and did the same on Day 2, including a sweeping win of Tsunami in which CJV’s aggressive serves continually took the Georgia team out of system. Tsunami gained revenge one day later in a match for a bid, but CJV rebounded with a three-set win over Willowbrook to finish third.
One team playing 18 Club we did not discuss was Club Kahuna, the club with the Hawaiian name and roots in Plano, Texas. The 18s team, nicknamed “North Shore,” finished T-9 and was one of only a few teams to take Tsunami to three games. All eight seniors on the 11-player Kahuna squad are college committed and they used that experience to turn in a strong showing.
The North Shore 17s matched the 18s with a T-9, but did it in more dramatic fashion. After a 3-0 Day 1, Kahuna lost their final pool play match on Saturday to finish 2-1. Five hours later, facing a bigger and stronger UVC Fierce team, North Shore showed its heart by winning Games 2 and 3 to reach the Gold bracket. A slow start Sunday morning versus TCA-CA 17 ASO ended their tourney, though their showing was very good indeed!"
Kahuna now sets its sights on the Lone Star Classic. |
